Karla Vanessa Perez is Pregnant with Nine Babies. Unreal.

By Piper Weiss, Shine Staff | Team Mom Last November, Karla Vanessa Perez, had her hands full with her daughter and her newborn set of triplets. She didn't expect to be pregnant with nine more babies the following year. That's nine as in almost all of your fingers, about half of the Dugger family, and one more than the entire clan of Gosselin kids. All nine of them, currently, living inside one woman. The Mexican news station Televisa broke the news of the 32-year-old mother's record-breaking multiple pregnancy this week, and Gawker has already stamped her with the tabloid-ready nickname "nonomom." Video: teacher fired over IVF procedure In a video of a news broadcast, Karla appears remarkably calm considering what lies ahead. "Doctors tell me there are six girls and three boys," the 32-year-old said. "It's miraculous." But science should probably take more of the credit. Up to 40 percent of in vitro fertilization pregnancie...

Apple’s Penchant for Secrecy Extends to its New Cafeteria

By Pueng Vongs | Yahoo! Finance The latest big project for high-tech innovator Apple may very well be called the iCafeteria. The world's largest technology company is planning to build a 21,468-square-foot eatery exclusively for Apple employees. It will be closed to the public. The idea behind the building is to create a space where workers can talk shop without fear of pesky competitors eavesdropping. "We like to provide a level of security so that people and employees can feel very comfortable talking about their business, their research and whatever project they're engineering without fear of competition overhearing their conversations," said Dan Whisenhunt, director of real estate facilities, at a presentation to the Cupertino, Calif., City Council. "That is a real issue today in Cupertino because we've got other companies here in our same business. It's very important to us," added Whisenhunt. The two-story building will be cent...

KFC ordered to pay $8.3 million to Australian girl

Fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken has been ordered to pay Aus$8 million (US$8.3 million) to an Australian girl who suffered severe brain damage and was paralysed after eating a Twister wrap. Monika Samaan was seven when she suffered salmonella encephalopathy -- a brain injury linked to food poisoning that also left her with a blood infection and septic shock -- in October 2005. Several other family members also fell ill and they claimed Samaan's injuries, which include severe cognitive, motor and speech impairment and spastic quadriplegia, were caused by a chicken Twister wrap from a Sydney KFC outlet . The New South Wales Supreme Court ruled in the family's favour a week ago and on Friday ordered KFC to pay the girl Aus$8 million in damages plus legal costs. In a statement, the family's lawyer George Vlahakis said they were relieved the battle was over. " Monika 's severe brain damage and severe disability has already exhausted the...
By BRIAN X. CHEN | New York Times Verizon and AT&T reported their quarterly earnings in the past week, and they told nearly identical stories: Both are making a lot of money just from mobile data - the fees customers pay to access the Internet over their networks. Some numbers shared by AT&T make it clear why. Ralph de la Vega, chief executive of AT&T Mobility, said during Tuesday's earnings call that about 60 percent of smartphone customers were paying for tiered data plans, and of those, 70 percent were choosing the higher-priced plans. For its tiered data plans, AT&T charges $20 for 300 megabytes of data, $30 for three gigabytes or $50 for five. Verizon's data plans are similar: $30 for two GB, $50 for five GB or $80 for 10 GB. Mr. de la Vega's statement suggests that the majority of people on AT&T's tiered plans are paying at least $30 for three GB, or more. And it turns out that three GB is far more than most people use. A r...

Analysts say North Korea's new missiles are fakes

By ERIC TALMADGE | Associated Press TOKYO (AP) — Analysts who have studied photos of a half-dozen ominous new North Korean missiles showcased recently at a lavish military parade say they were fakes, and not very convincing ones, casting further doubt on the country's claims of military prowess. Since its recent rocket launch failure, Pyongyang 's top military leaders have made several boastful statements about its weapons capabilities. On Wednesday, Vice Marshal Ri Yong Ho claimed his country is capable of defeating the United States "at a single blow." And on Monday, North Korea promised "special actions" that would reduce Seoul's government to ashes within minutes. But the weapons displayed April 15 appear to be a mishmash of liquid-fuel and solid-fuel components that could never fly together. Undulating casings on the missiles suggest the metal is too thin to withstand flight. Each missile was slightly different from th...

Capitals owner Ted Leonsis condemns racist fan reactions to Joel Ward’s Game 7 goal

By Greg Wyshynski | Puck Daddy Joel Ward of the Washington Capitals was born in Toronto to parents who migrated from Barbados. He used to hear racist taunts playing in youth hockey tournaments, but told the Washington Post this season that "I've [heard] nothing in the NHL." On Wednesday night, Ward scored the series-winning goal against the Boston Bruins in overtime of Game 7. The kind of racist language that Ward had avoided throughout his NHL career bubbled to the surface like sewage on social media. Some of the reaction collected by Capitals Outsider after Ward's game-winner (Strong Language Warning) : "Hey Joel Ward!! You [expletive] spear chucking monkey, why don't you actually DO SOMETHING. You're totally irrelevant" "How the [expletive] did Joel ward get out of my plantation? #WheresMyCotton" "Warning to Joel Ward. Your one of three black guys in Canada. I will find you…and I will kill you." And so on. Th...

Can world's 'most threatened' tribe be saved?

LiveScience.com By Stephanie Pappas A new international campaign hopes to save a group of people who have been dubbed "the most threatened tribe in the world" — the Awá tribe of Brazil — from encroaching outsiders who are gobbling up their land. The Awá live in the Brazilian state of Maranhão on lands set aside for their hunter-gatherer lifestyle. But according to the tribal advocacy group Survival International , which is leading the new campaign, the tribe is increasingly under threat by illegal settlement and logging on their lands . One reserve set aside for the tribe, the Awá Territory, is one-third deforested, its trees stripped by illegal logging operations, some with sawmills operating only miles from Awá land. "When the forest is destroyed, they either flee or they simply die," said Survival's field director Fiona Watson, who has worked with and interviewed many of the 360 surviving Awá who are in contact with society. On ...

Beyonce Is People Magazine's 'Most Beautiful Woman' of 2012

Pop and R&B star Beyonce has been named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman 2012 by People magazine , and she graces the cover of the publication’s special issue . The 30-year-old is married to rapper/entertainment mogul Jay-Z.  She gave birth to the couple’s first child, Blue Ivy Carter, in January. She said she was overwhelmed and embarrassed by the accolade, but added that it has special significance now. “I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth and I have never felt so connected and I never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth and never so proud of myself,” the “Crazy in Love”singer said. “It means more to me that I was named this after I became a mother.” Michelle Tan, People’s senior editor, appeared on “Good Morning America” today and called Beyonce a "strong role model" who's had a remarkable year. Beyonce burst onto the scene as part of the girls’ group, Destiny’s Child, before embarking on a solo career that...

Marines discharge sergeant for Facebook posts

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Marine Corps said Wednesday it has decided to discharge a sergeant for criticizing President Barack Obama on Facebook . The Corps said Sgt. Gary Stein will be given an other-than-honorable discharge for violating Pentagon policy limiting speech of service members. The San Diego-area Marine has served nearly 10 years in the Marine Corps . He has said he was exercising his free-speech rights. The discharge will mean he loses all benefits. A federal judge previously denied a request to block military discharge proceedings against Stein, who called Obama an enemy on Facebook. U.S. District Judge Marilyn Huff ruled then that the military has the right to respond to Stein's online comments in a case that has called into question the Pentagon's policies regarding social media and the limits regarding the speech of active duty military personnel. Attorney J. Mark Brewer told Huff the entire process violates the First Amendment, which federa...

More than $1M found in armored car heist arrest

By JOE MANDAK | Associated Press PITTSBURGH (AP) — An armored car guard accused of killing his partner in Pittsburgh and making off with more than $2 million was arrested in Florida on Tuesday after nearly two months on the run when someone called Pittsburgh police to report his whereabouts, authorities said. Investigators recovered more $1 million from a storage locker and the home where Kenneth Konias Jr. was arrested early Tuesday in Pompano Beach, Fla., law enforcement officials said. Konias was arrested without incident at a home where he had been staying, the FBI said. Special Agent Michael Rodriguez, head of the Pittsburgh FBI office, said Konias was cooperating with agents. "He admitted his identity and he was cooperative when he was arrested," Rodriguez said at a news conference announcing the arrest. Konias had two weapons with him, both handguns, one of which was his company-supplied weapon, which Rodriguez said Konias "indicated that...

Ferrari Enzo abandoned in Dubai to finally be auctioned off

Remember the poor Ferrari Enzo supercar abandoned in Dubai last August? Well, it’s still sitting in the same police impound lot we last saw it in, but it may have a bright future ahead. The Enzo, along with several other exotics, is to be auctioned off in what the Daily Mail, via Jalopnik, claims is the most expensive police sale in history. The person who abandoned the car is believed to be a British citizen who leased the Ferrari and then fled Dubai 20 months ago when they couldn’t afford the repayments and traffic fines. It’s not uncommon to face jail time in Dubai for outstanding debts so we tend to see some financed vehicles abandoned, either at airport car parks or even the owner’s former place of residence. However, it’s extremely rare--and sad--to see something like a Ferrari Enzo left abandoned. Other cars seized by authorizes in Dubai and set to be auctioned include some that were stolen and others that were abandoned after they were involved in accidents. Unde...

Zoya Akhtar to make short film on 100 years of Bollywood

Director Zoya Akhtar is making a short film to pay tribute to the Indian cinema industry, which would be celebrating a centenary next year. The first Indian feature film, ‘Raja Harishchandra’, made by Dadasaheb Phalke, was released in April 1913. “Yes, I am making a film on 100 years of Indian cinema.  It is not a documentary film…it is a fiction film. It is not from my production so I cannot talk about it,” Zoya told PTI here. The film will reportedly feature Katrina Kaif, but Zoya refused to divulge details, saying, “The announcement will come next month.” Of late, films such as Dirty Picture and Kahani—with a woman in pivotal role—have done well at the box office. When asked if she would make a women-centric film, Zoya said: “I don’t look at it like that. All I can say is that woman characters in my film will have powerful roles. It is the story that excites me…it is not about it being a male or women oriented film. I don’t approach it that way.”

Turtle with Two Heads Discovered in Slovakia

Magdalena is not just a normal tortoise, the animal has two heads and five legs. The reptile belongs to Roman Gresak from Zilina in Slovakia, who thought of a fitting name, “We call her Magdalena: one head is Magda and the second one is Lena”, Mr Gresak explained. According to zoologists Magdalena’s unique case is comparable to the case of Siamese twins. During the pregnancy the embryos didn’t separate correctly. Each of the heads has its own nerve system and the tortoise has got two brains, which work independently from each other. The question remains how the systems are connected within the body and which functions they share. The tortoise would hardly survive in the wild though because other tortoises would exclude her from their collective. Having two heads and five legs can also sometimes be a burden. “The second head sometimes doesn’t allow the tortoise to know where to go,” Mr Gresak said. But one direction is already clear for Magdalena, the tortoise is heading...

Schwarzenegger Dog Pictures

Take a look at the dog below. What do you think ? Pretty sure that you don't believe what your eyes are seeing, you might think that this picture is photoshoped, but everything is real. The type of dog pictured here is a “bully whippet,” a type of whippet with a genetic mutation that makes it more muscular and faster than standard ones. Wendy, the bully whippet in this photograph, lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and is remarkable in that she has two mutated copies of the gene and is therefore a “double-muscled” bully whippet who weighs twice as much as a standard one. The increased muscle mass, along with metabolism and extremely low levels of body fats, can translate to impressive super-feats, including marked increases in speed, agility and power. http://greaterpost.com/cartoon-videos/night-of-the-living-nightmare-and-the-ultimate-enemy-pics http://greaterpost.com/world-records-videos/sultan-kosen-tallest-man-of-the-world-youtube

Target Belly Fat with Cardio

The fact is that in order to truly burn belly fat, you can’t just focus on one area of your body. It might seem like targeting your abdominals or sides should help, but not all fat is immediately visible. The fact is that in order to truly burn belly fat, you can’t just focus on one area of your body. It might seem like targeting your abdominals or sides should help, but not all fat is immediately visible. I’m talking about visceral fat. Visceral fat is the fat that collects around your internal organs. This type of fat will remain in place until you choose a fully inclusive exercise regimen. To burn belly fat faster, the most effective method includes a variety of total body movements which raise your heart rate for at least 20 minutes, three days a week. This can be walking around the block, jogging or trying out some cardio machines at the gym. There are so many different ways to burn belly fat faster through cardiovascular movements that I won’t even be ...
